Review | Rage and Ruin by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Oh, sweet batman. Why do I do this to myself?

What’s it about?

Recap: In Storm and Fury, we meet special-snowflake Trinity — who is half-angel — and super hot Zayne — who is a gargoyle-shifter. When Trinity’s gargoyle protector is kidnapped, she teams up with Mr. Abs, travels to Washington DC, and tries to solve the mystery.

By the end of the book, Trinity’s protector is dead and Zayne has taken his place. This causes *plenty* of drama, as Trinity and Zayne have the hots for each other … but there are arbitrary rules in this strange universe saying that half-angels and their protectors aren’t allowed to … uh, how does the book put it … ?

Oh yes … “bump nasties” with each other.

As you might imagine, Rage and Ruin is chalk full of YA relationship angst, from why-did-you-talk-to-that-other-girl?! to epic bedroom miscommunication. There’s also some demons, the end of the world, political corruption, ghosts, brutal murders, and – yes – human torture.

… other than the super emotionally immature characters, I don’t really know why this book is classified as YA.

First line:

I blinked open achy, swollen eyes and stared straight at the pale, translucent face of a ghost.

Highs and lows:

❌ Most of my critiques of Rage and Ruin are the same as those for Storm and Fury … Though, I will say: it helped that I expected them this time.

❓ Trinity’s vision. Trinity has a visual impairment … and, in Storm and Fury, it irritated me to no end that it was a plot device that came/went at mostly random. Rage and Ruin was more consistent in its discussion … though, not entirely.

βœ”οΈ It’s like crack. Yeah, I admit it. I’m in line for Book #3 from the library.

You should read this if …

Muscle-y gargoyles is your thing.
