Review | The Worm and the Bird by Coralie Bickford-Smith

If you’ve been following me for a little while, you might remember my review (and subsequent ranting/raving) about The Fox and the Star. It’s a quiet, lyrical little children’s book stuffed with gorgeous illustrations. Illustrations like:

If the style looks familiar, it’s because the author is the artist behind the Penguin cloth-bound editions.

I’ve been looking for a copy of The Worm and the Bird for the past year, and finally was able to locate a copy. To say that I was thrilled would be an understatement.

And the book? It’s gorgeous.

… like really, really gorgeous.

The story itself is on the minimal side, and the message – like Fox and the Star – is someone abstract and ambiguous. It’s not feel-good, but there certainly is wisdom in it. It’s one to chew on and revisit.
